The model takes an innovative, labour force concept and connects prospective employers with individuals who have barriers to seeking employment. Nominations are being sought for the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Order of Newfoundland and Labrador is the highest honour of the province. The object of the Order is to recognize individuals who have demonstrated excellence and achievement in any field of endeavour benefiting in an outstanding manner Newfoundland and Labrador and its residents. The first investiture took place in 2004.

From Nov. 28 to Dec. 12 youth can log on to http://www.ookpik.org, a website run by the International Institute for Sustainable Development, and join in the discussion. Northern youth who participate will be eligible to join a group of youth who will travel on an-all-expenses paid trip to next April’s conference in Montreal, called “From Knowledge to Action.”

The Great-West Life, London Life and Canada Life Literacy Innovation Award

The Great-West Life, London Life and Canada Life Literacy Innovation Award honours innovation in the creation and delivery (or in the development, implementation and delivery) of adult literacy or adult-integrated family literacy programs delivered by a community organization in Canada. The adult-focused literacy program makes a positive contribution to the lives of the participants as well as the community and could serve as a model for other organizations to adapt.

Developed and hosted by NALD in collaboration with Literacy Newfoundland and Labrador.

This project is funded by the Government of Canada’s Office of Literacy and Essential Skills.
