Please leave a message if you are calling after hours.

2. Adult Basic Education

Adults of all ages in adult basic education programs want help with reading, writing and math, or to work towards their high school credits.

The classes are for 25 hours a week of instruction, full-time between 9:00 am – 3:00 pm Monday to Friday. There are a number of program locations across NL offering Adult Basic Education.

3. Extra help for your school-age child

Sometimes kids need extra help if they are having trouble with a subject in school.

Tutors for Tuition is a program of the Department of Education. It pairs the student with an older student-helper who has mastered the subject. You can ask the child’s school to find out more about the program. Or you can call the LEARN Line to talk about your needs. The number is 1-800-563-1111.

If your child is absent from school at least four weeks due to medical reasons, home tutoring may be available. The intent is to allow the student to continue schooling and to ease the transition back to full-time attendance.

There are a number of services available to your school age child including: alternate format materials, assistive technology, special transportation and student assistants.

For more information, contact the Department of Education at (709) 729-5097 or visit
